A Reiki treatment involves placing the hands in a number of standard positions on the body, front and back, including the head and the feet. Some of the positions correspond to the energy centers called chakras, which regulate the healing energy to the body. Additional positions may be used for a specific condition affecting the client. Each hand position is held for approximately 3 minutes, but can be more or less depending on the needs of the particular person.
A full treatment lasts from 45 to 90 minutes. The client lies fully clothed on a treatment table, and the Reiki session may include a discussion during which the practitioner determines any special requirements for the healing. The treatment creates a deeply relaxing and calming radiance, that benefits both the client and the practitioner. The experience varies with each session and is unique to each person.
How people describe the healing sessions?
People describe the Reiki energy as heat, warmth, coldness, feelings of dizziness or electricity, and some even feel nothing at all. This does not mean that they are not receiving any energy, but that they will feel the effects of Reiki at a later stage. Once attuned to the energy, you can also treat yourself, by placing your hands on your body.
As in other forms of healing, a Reiki practitioner can provide absent healing, with the use of a secret symbol, to another person in another location. The symbol, takes the energy to a higher level, such that the hands are no longer required to touch the physical body to provide healing.
